Book of Yoga

ebook
YOGA Yoga is a term that has two meaning. 1. A school of thought in the Hindu religion 2. A system of mental and physical exercise. Practitioners of the Yoga are called Yogi. They use Yogasana (exercise) to achieve their goal of isolation of the soul from the body and mind. Many non-Hindus in western countries practice some form of Yoga exercise in hope of improving their health and achieving peace of mind. The word Yoga means discipline in Sanskrit language (one of the best language in the world). Yoga believes in the principle that, every human being consists of Prakriti and Purusha. Prakriti includes a person’s body, mind, and ego (conscious self), Purusha is pure, empty consciousness of the soul. The Yoga teaches that the soul is completely separate from the rest of the person, but the person does not realize it. Human beings suffer because they wrongly believe that their soul is bound to their body and mind. The Yoga exercise aims to give people Gyan (knowledge) of the meaning of their soul. After a person has obtained this understanding, his soul will gain moksha (release) from the sansara (world-cycle of rebirth). A yogi, under the guidance of a guru (teacher), goes through eight stages known as Asthanyoga on the way to moksha. He learns: (1) Yama – disciplined behavior. (2) Niyama – self-purification. (3) Asana – bodily postures such as the lotus position. (4) Pranayama – control of breathing. (5) Pratyahara – control of the senses. (6) Dharana – fixing of the mind on a chosen object. (7) Dhyana – meditation. (8) Samadhi – It is a state of concentration in which yogis realize that they are pure and free, and empty from all content. A yogi who has completed these eight stages reaches Kaivalya. Kaivalya is total isolation of the soul from the body, from all other souls, and from all of nature.
